Australian travel agent Michelle Smith was fatally stabbed when a bag-snatch went wrong outside a five-star resort at Phuket's quiet Kata Noi beach last month.
Police used security camera footage and were following useful clues when a witness contacted them and told them he knew the two perpetrators.
The man at first rejected a 300,000 baht reward for information but police and the resort's owner remained keen for the man to accept the money.
Yesterday at the PTA's office in Phuket City, President Somboon Jirayus and the group's committee opted to give police 100,000 baht as a thank-you for their good work in the investigation.
At the meeting to accept the cheque were Phuket's Deputy Police Commander Colonel Sakchai Limjalern and Colonel Chertpomg Chewpecha, from Region 8 police headquarters.
''Safety is vital to tourism on Phuket and the good work by police helped to quickly restore the confidence of visitors,'' Khun Somboon said.
Many Australian tour companies had telephoned or contacted the PTA as the police investigation continued, he added.
About 400,000 Australians visit Phuket each year.
The PTA is now engaged in discussions aimed at helping police to improve Phuket's security camera network as part of the ''Phuket Happiness'' project, which seeks a budget of 270 million baht.
