In its latest attempt to blame Phuket for events that don't even happen on the island, the newspaper has incorrectly located a tragic vehicle collision on Phuket - and blamed the wrong person for it.
Swedes who know Phuket are likely to be quick to point out that 'Aftonbladet's' coverage of Phuket, one of Sweden's favorite tourism destinations, has again failed to be factual.
Essentially, the latest 'Aftonbladet' article is about the recent death of an elderly Swede in Hua Hin but the newspaper opted to illustrate the piece online with a dramatic photograph of a ''Phuket'' road crash.
The caption reads: ''SAVAGE car crash: Four young Swedes lost their lives in a violent car accident on the holiday island of Phuket in early February. Their driver is accused of the crash and risks 10 years in prison.''
That's total rubbish. The four young Swedes were killed in a crash in another province, Phang Nga, which is north of Phuket - and the Thai driver of the car was also killed in the collision.
To accuse a dead man of being in the wrong when he was actually the tragic fifth victim is a serious blunder.
The person charged over the event is the driver of the fish truck that ran out of control, crossed a highway divide and crushed the car, killing all five occupants.
The young Swedes had enjoyed their holiday on Phuket and were on their way to another destination when the crash occurred in February - and it was not on Phuket. It was in Phang Nga.
Why 'Aftonbladet' chooses to get it so wrong in articles about Phuket remains a mystery.
A regulation check at Phuketwan or other local sources would have shown their version was completely inaccurate.
The article is mostly about the high number of deaths of Swedes in Thailand, which the newspaper actually admits is probably due to a statistical aberration, advanced age and natural causes in the majority of cases.
Late last month 'Aftonbladet' republished the farcical claims made in a Singapore online site that carried the headline: 'Phuket, Thailand: Crime Capital of Asia.'
The first paragraph began: ''If you are headed to Thailand for holidays you will have a great time, with one exception, avoid Phuket at all costs. For fun, investment or business Phuket is far too dangerous for tourists.''
Outrageous lies, all of it. Why 'Aftonbladet' chose to give credibility to this scaremonger's false account about Phuket is anyone's guess.
We would have thought they would want to maintain their reputation as a newspaper deserving of some respect.
A publication with 'Aftonbladet's' reputation and resources should have done its own proper research.
Now the latest misrepresentation of the facts to make Phuket look bad only leaves us puzzled as to why Swedish readers - and the Thai government - put up with this inaccurate nonsense.
